What is the Senior Class Gift?

A collaboration of the graduating class to make a difference as they leave the UW.

How will the money be used?

You decide! You can designate your individual gift to the school/college or department of your choice.

Is private support important?

Private support makes up 19 percent of the current UW-Madison budget. Without it, the environment on campus would be drastically different.

From where does the rest of the funding come?

Fifteen percent is from tuition while 19 percent is from the state. Along with private support, federal support and auxiliary enterprises make up the rest.

Does everyone give?

Many alumni, friends, parents, faculty and staff give every year. Last year their gifts totaled more than $207.9 million.

Why should I make a gift?

It impacts rankings, the value of your degree and the experience of future students. And it is easy!

How do I make a gift?

Attend Countdown to Commencement to give in person or go make an online gift.

What if I can't afford it?

Almost everyone can afford it because the size of the gift doesn't matter. The average gift is $20.08 - the cost of a t-shirt or a couple of meals. Even gifts of less make a difference.

When do I have to have my gift in?

In order for it to count towards the class gift total and be eligible for the match, all gifts must be in by December 31, 2008. However, you can give anytime you'd like to.

Who is matching the gifts?

Alumni are matching the gift dollar-for-dollar through a special fund at the UW Foundation allowing your support to have twice the impact!

How much did people give last year?

The 2007 Senior Class gave a total of $2,863, and we'd like to exceed that number in 2008.

Can my parents make a gift on my behalf?

Yes. Your parents can make a gift in your honor by completing the online form. They should make sure to request that you get credit in the detailed instructions section of the online form. We hope we can count on your support in addition to any gift your family might make in your honor.
