About the Class Gift

Supporting the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an established tradition. Last year, nearly 80,000 alumni, students, parents and friends made gifts that made up almost 20 percent of the University's operating budget. The Class of 2010 is ready to join these donors in making its class gift.

What is the Senior Class Gift?

The Class of 2010's vote was a tie between two areas:

  • Supporting scholarships
  • Naming a room in the new south Union

We are able to do both!

  1. Because the top campus priority is to increase need-based support for students, our gifts will be directed toward the Great People Scholarship.
  2. Our generosity will be recognized in the new south Union and will start a new tradition of recognition of all class gifts.

You are always free to give any amount with which you feel comfortable to any area of campus you wish to support, such as your school/college or department.

Why is private support important?

Private support is a critical component of the funding process that ensures the University will maintain a position of academic leadership. Private funding provides that extra margin of excellence in teaching and research. Below is a pie chart that shows the University's budget:

Why should I make a gift?

Three very important reasons:

  1. Giving back is important and impacts the value of your degree as well as the experience of future students.
  2. We are beginning an important tradition of recognition in the new south Union. We want to be leaders in giving for future classes and set an example for others to follow.
  3. Your gift is matched dollar-for-dollar by the UW Foundation*!

How do I make a gift?

Giving is easy!

  1. You can make a gift online now.
  2. You can go to the Wisconsin Alumni Association's web site to take advantage of a special offer and combine your gift via the UW Foundation* with a one-year membership to the Wisconsin Alumni Association*.
  3. Or you can attend Countdown to Commencement (other events of Senior Week) to give in person.

What if I can't afford it?

No matter the size, your gift does make a difference. Typically, average senior class gifts are a little more than $20, because many people give $20.10 to commemorate the Class of 2010.

Another option is a gift from your parents, who can give in your honor by completing the online form. They need to be sure to select the proper designation and request that you receive credit in the detailed instructions section of the online form.

Special Thanks To:

  1. The Union for helping to start a new tradition of recognizing student philanthropy.
  2. The University Book Store for continuing to support the Senior Class Gift by generously contributing 25 cents for every gown that is rented at Countdown to Commencement.
  3. The Wisconsin Alumni Association* for making Senior Week a success and promoting student philanthropy.
